Golden Age of Amsterdam: Art & History of the Dutch Metropolis

While Amsterdam is an international destination thanks to its picturesque cityscape and intimacy, its beauty and amiableness go far beyond what meets the eye. For over 400 years, it's been a metropolis for art, innovation, and values that not only made the Netherlands into an empire, but also helped shape the modern world. It's time to uncover the story of how this unique city came to be, with a focus on the time period that put the city and country on the map.

Led by Dutch art historian Mariska Beekenkamp-Wladimiroff in partnership with Art Historical London, this 1.5 hour virtual journey spanning back to the 16th century will include:

• An introduction to the Dutch "Golden Age," which emerged between 1580-1672 in the Netherlands

• Why Amsterdam became an international hub of different cultures and beliefs, and a destination for the prosecuted

• The economic growth of the city and the importance of the Amsterdam Stock Exchange (the oldest in the world), Dutch East India Company, and Dutch West India Company in their heyday

• The importance of the city as an international centre of the arts

• A close look at art that embodies the pivotal role of Amsterdam through the ages
